Kinstone is open 10am to 6pm daily – including holidays, May 1 through October 31

Kinstone is a seasonal business.

  • OPEN from May 1 through October 31
  • CLOSED from November 1 to April 30 Exceptions during the off-season may be made for planned events and pre-arranged visits. We sometimes host special off-season events that are published in our newsletter, on this website or on our social media pages.  Subscribe to the newsletter here: SUBSCRIBE or follow us on Facebook and Instagram: @kinstonecircle.

We like to accommodate visitors even during our off-season or at times outside our regular hours when possible.

If you wish to visit and walk the grounds of Kinstone while we are closed for the season or at any time other than our regularly scheduled open hours, please Contact Us to make arrangements at least 48 hours in advance. In your email inquiry please include your name, how many people will be with you, how many children will be with you (if any), pets (if any), what date you wish to visit, and what time you think you will arrive and depart. Once received, we will review the request and get back to you to confirm the date and provide you with special, off-hours instructions. Admission for each person is required and must be paid in advance.

What to Expect

With paid admission, visitors are welcome to explore Kinstone in a self-guided manner during our regular open hours.

Kinstone has stone structures and features scattered throughout a 15-acre area. The walking trails are all mown grass paths cut through tall grassy areas and prairie. The land, typical of the bluff-top topography in this part of the world, is mostly sloping. The most level areas are adjacent to the road (Cole Bluff Lane) where many of the major features can be seen while walking a relatively flat path; other features are situated down the slope. Be prepared to walk downhill and back up again if you wish to visit every feature.

We have cats, goats and bees! There are several cats that inhabit the place. They are friendly, outdoor cats and may walk with visitors from time to time. There are 3 female Nigerian Dwarf goats in the goat pasture. There are honeybees as well. There is a 2+ acre section of planted tall grass prairie that is in peak bloom from late July to mid-August. This area is a favorite for the bees as well as a huge number of other pollinators.

DOGS are allowed on the grounds when on a leash and only when there are no events in progress. Dogs are not allowed during events. Owners must clean up after their dogs and take the trash with them when they leave; owners must ensure their dogs are not disruptive to others. Dogs are not allowed inside the Visitor Center unless they are working Service Dogs. Visitors with disruptive dogs will be asked to leave immediately. Kinstone assumes NO responsibility for the actions of any dogs that enter the property.

The following information is very important and is repeated in the Rules and Information section as well. We appreciate your cooperation. Thank you!

We keep at least two portable toilets on the property during our regular open season. They are located near the parking area.

Photography is allowed for personal use only. No photo sessions (i.e. graduation photos, wedding photos, family photos, etc) are allowed without a permit and prior arrangement. Commercial photography or filmmaking are allowed only with a permit and prior arrangement. Photos taken of features at Kinstone are not allowed to be used for commercial purposes without an appropriate permit.

Permission, prior arrangements and permits, are required for any drones, drone photography, commercial or professional photography, photo sittings/sessions, fires, picnics, large groups, and special events. Contact Us to inquire in advance.

By entering Kinstone each person agrees they have read and understand all rules and information and enter at their own risk. Adults agree on behalf of dependent children and/or other dependent persons who are unable to read and understand such information on their own.

Find visitor rules and information below and also posted on the message boards on our Information Kiosks located near the parking area at Kinstone. Maps with information and frequently asked questions are provided in the Visitor Center upon check-in. There are 40+ sign placards throughout the property that describe various features.  The Visitor Center staff are available during regular hours in case of further questions.

NOTICE: Kinstone is privately owned. It is managed, maintained, and funded by Kristine Beck.  In order to maintain the property an admission fee is required.  The admission fees are used to offset annual operational costs. If you are able to further support Kinstone with a financial gift, please Donate here. Kristine greatly appreciates and gratefully accepts donations. Thank you for visiting and for any support you provide.

Visiting the Kinstone grounds generally requires quite a bit of walking on mown grass paths spread over 15 acres of mostly sloping land. There are no motorized transport vehicles available and visitors cannot drive a motorized vehicle or car to any of the features. We have a grass parking lot near the Visitor Center. Persons with accessibility issues may wish to call in advance to request parking in our gravel Staff Parking Lot which allows very close access into the Visitor Center itself.

The use of wheelchairs and/or walkers with larger, rugged wheels is generally possible on the more level pathways around Kinstone; however, the success of this equipment ultimately depends upon the quality of the equipment and the ability of the person operating it. See features listed below below regarding what might be accessible. The Visitor Center building is accessible through a 4-foot wide service door on the porch side of the building and involves no stairs to enter. While we maintain at least two portable toilets here during our open season, there are no ADA compliant restrooms at Kinstone.

Some of the major features on the more level paths that may be accessible for those with proper wheelchairs and/or walkers include:

  • The Three Witnesses sculpture
  • the Harp Stone and RPK Memorial
  • The Stargazer Circle and Basin Rockk
  • The Great Stone Circle and The Chair Stones
  • The Corridor Stones, Rainbow Fountain and The Water Dragon
  • Grace and the Hedgehog, The Pergola, and The Galactic Bench
  • Atlas & Lancelot
  • The Chapel of Creation and The Monks
  • The Dragon’s Keep

Some of the major features that are located down steeper slopes are likely inaccessible to those in wheelchairs, walkers, or to those with health issues preventing strenuous walking up and down hills. These include: The Family & The Traveler, The Circle of Mystery, The Dolmen, The Labyrinth. The Serprent of Transformation, The Energy Stones, The Yurt, The Sauna, Limestone Lane, The Straw-Clay Cabin, the Animal Shelter and Goat Pasture.

For your comfort we recommend that you wear sturdy walking shoes, bring a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, hat and/or umbrella for protection from the sun and rain, and a portable camp chair or cushion if you wish to sit at various places throughout Kinstone.  Note: fresh, cold Kinstone well water is available in the Gift Shop for visitors for free – you can fill your water bottle there as needed or use our compostable single-use cups. There is also a variety of sparkling water and soda available for purchase; inquire at the Gift Shop in the Visitor Center.
